Or even the good old AOD is purely hydraulic, no electronics needed and it's got overdrive. Just make sure it's got all the fixes for all the various problems it had over the years. It'll even take the "wide ratio" 1st/2nd gears that the electronic 4R70W has I believe.
If you have a rear gear that's not very high (3.00:1, depending on tires?) you'll probably want more 1st gear anyway.

Find a combo 302 AOD and pull them out of a mustang or pickup. They will bolt right in with little to be changed. I picked up a working AOD from a 89 stang for less than 200 bucks. As soon as I can go through it and make sure it's good, I'm putting in a shift kit and new converter and It's going in my 71 f100 behind my 351C. It's gonna be awesome.
