Hard to find correct 4x4?

I'm in the market for an old F100 and for whatever reason, really want it to be 4x4...FACTORY. Are those hard to find in the 65-66 year range? I'm not opposed to the bumpsides either but IMO the ones before that look even better. I don't necessarily care that it's factory (read: I could do a conversion later myself), I just want to know it was done right...which is hard to tell from most sellers. Am I in search of a unicorn here?

If you find a 61-66 F100 4wd excluding the 66 F100 4wd. You will have found pretty much the same truck. Same with the F250 4wd in all these years. I have found 2 of them one is a 65 F100 4wd that I found while looking for parts for my 63 F250 4wd. We do seem to have more than our share of them showing up up here in the pacific northwest part of the country. The holy grail of these would be either a F100 or F250 crewcab in a 4wd platform. Now those are rare. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the info. What's the difference on the 66 versus the 61-65? I don't plan on doing hardcore rock crawling or anything but the occasional light off-road use. I do plan on either doing performance upgrades to the motor (if it's one that I like) or putting in a motor to get some speed out of the truck. Is a bumpside a better platform for that?

1966 F100 4WD's have coil spring front suspension, use the same cab as 1965/66 F100/250 2WD, use the same Styleside beds as 1964/66 F100/250 2WD

1961/65 F100/250 4WD, 1966 F250 4WD have front leaf springs, have a cab step visible when the doors are opened.

Use 1957/60 Styleside beds, called the 'wrong' beds when installed on 1961/66's, as the bed lines do not match up to the cab lines.

On a recent trip down thru central Idaho on hwy 93, I bet I saw 15 slick 4x4's sitting in farm yards and for sale along the road. Didn't have time to stop and inquire, but thought it was odd to see so many....
Road trip anyone?

They are surely rare around my area don't see them hardly ever for sale and when they are they usually are rusted bad. I have a 64 f100 4x4 and a 66 f250 crew cab 4x4 both factory I like the early 4x4 with the steps inside the door and the formation on the roofs

Also I believe the 66 cabs use the same floors and cab mounts as the bump sides so it would be easier to do a frame swap onto a 67-72 4x4 frame I like the 67 and newer 4x4 frames as they are easier to lift and correct the steering

A quick glance in CL up here in Spokane and surrounding areas under cars and trucks for sale (search under f100) revealed 3 61-66 4wd trucks for sale that from description and pics appear to be factory 4wd trucks.

Hey Tinman sounds like my drive down 93 would probably take longer than yours did. I usually try to stop and take pics if they are easy enough to get to. I might even do some door knocking if the farm dog doesn't look to viscous. Im going to google up hyw 93.

I know this isn't a 4x4 but for the right price, I don't have to have it. Can maybe add it later if I really find the need. What are y'all's opinions on this truck? Inside needs some restoration. He said few small rust holes in bed floor. Haven't seen in person yet. I do know it needs an ignition harness.

You want a 4WD and now you're considering this vastly overpriced 2WD turd with a swapped 460 engine/trans from who knows what.

4,000 bucks and it needs an ignition harness (whatever that is)? IMO, 400 bucks is too much!
