08, F250 CC - New to Me

I'm the new owner of a 2008 F250 Crew Cab. I'm moving up from a '99 Expedition, 5.4L which is still going strong with 195k miles (my 15 year old son has already claimed it as his vehicle). Most of my time has been spent on the Expedition forum, but I've been reading lots of good threads here in the 6.4L forum......learned quite a bit. I'm looking forward to my first O/F change, fuel filter change, and water/fuel separator drain (hopefully, this weekend). I'll stick with the Motorcraft oil filter ($22 from amazon), Motorcraft fuel filters ($53 from amazon), Motorcraft 15w40 diesel oil (~$17/5 qt from walmart), and the previous owner swore by the Cetane additive (PM-22A, $9 from Ford). I've ordered the 6-pk Blackstone oil analysis kit and still need to get the coolant test strips.

This is my first diesel, so I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions (maybe this weekend with my first maintenance).

Below are some pictures of my truck.

Very nice. You will find a bit of a learning curve with the emissions but a great truck

I'd have to agree with allstar about the DPF but other members have proven these trucks can survive with the emissions left on, just watch to make sure it doesn't make oil and try to drive through all the regen's if possible. Sounds like you have a good handle on what these beast take to survive that's a start. Welcome and good luck, don't be afraid to ask questions if you can't find the answer your looking for.
Looks like it's a 2WD, don't see too many of those.

Looks great and congrats. You really did a lot of research ahead of time. Wish I had done the same, but learned quickly after the fact. How many miles on the truck? Definitly consider the DPF/EGR deletes. I just did mine and wish I did it the day I bought it. If you really want to understand this engine inside and out read through the files in this link. I found the info under the air management & cooling system sections extremely helpful. Especially when doing the deletes. I actually printed the whole thing out at Staples and put it in a nice 3 ring binder for my reference.

Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments. The truck is a 2wd with 36k miles. I would have preferred 4wd, buy the mileage was the selling point. The previous owner was retired and used it mostly for towing a 5th wheel; hence the low mileage. He sold the 5th wheel and just didn't need the truck anymore.

It is way more truck than I need. I have a 5k lb TT that I tow 3 or 4 times a year. The expy handled the TT well, but with 195k miles I was getting a little worried. Plus, we are thinking about towing out west (Rockies, Yellowstone?) next summer and I thought a newer truck would be nice.

I do not fully understand the DPF/EGR delete or tuning, so I have a lot more reading to do. It doesn't matter though......I spent all my money on purchasing the truck so I don't have anything left for new toys

So much info on all these boards about the deletes. And once you understand how harmful these emission controls are to these trucks, you will be convinced. That said, many guys don't get rid of the emission equipment and are fine. The key is to pop the hood often and stay on top of your maintenence.

Look out for signs of EGR cooler failures.....
Change oil according to schedule. Sending OA to Blackstone on every oil change is a great idea and well worth it.
Watch coolant levels closely.

You are fortunate to have such a low mileage truck and be aware of the problems that may creep up as to see the warning signs early.
