226 draft down tube, what the heck holds it down?

Hello, so I removed, cleaned and replaced the gaskets to the valve covers on my 49. I noticed on some pics, not very clear ones that. The draft down tube is braced by some kind of bracket to the block?

I screwed it into the valve cover but that's all that is holding mine in place???

Any pics or does someone have a bracket for sale?????

Here's a pic with the bracket shown in the top half from Van Pelt's site. It bolts to the pan. I don't have the bracket, so I'm going to make one using a hose clamp and a small piece of bent and drilled steel plate.

Better yet, here's a view from the Parts Illustrations book. The clamp is 8287 and the holder is 6788.

follow up to valve cover question

Hello Vegas123....when you replaced the valve cover gaskets, did you remove the exhaust and intake manifold, or leave them attached? I am about to do the same and was wondering if I can do it without taking those out.

Also, did you ever find parts for your road draft tube? I think I am missing the bracket and lower section and would like to know your source if you found them.

Thanks
Jonathan

I can understand your reluctance to remove the manifolds, but wouldn't it make sense to do a valve adjustment "while you are in there"?
