Hello from Traverse City MI

Just received a 'present' from my wife, 1950 F1. A good daily runner which will eventually get a full rebuild but not until I've enjoyed a few miles!!
I'm sure to have many questions and you will all probably be sick of my questions!!
We are originally from England but lived in Houston for the last 10 years, now living in Traverse City MI, and beautiful it is.
My auto background is a mixture of restoration/rebuilds/kit cars with my last project being a Factory Five Cobra finished 2010.
The F1 restoration will probably have to wait until I start/finish a LowCost Lotus 7 style replica which I hope to start in the next few weeks.
Look forward to hearing from y'all as the months progress and I start looking for answers
Cheers all

John

Welcome John! Congrats on the F1 and let me be the first to give your wife a big for the great present! We'd love to see some pictures of your truck. A couple of the guys here have good instructions on how to post pics and will hopefully check in soon to share. I've uploaded mine to Photobucket (free account) and then download them here. If you become a member the pic posting process becomes even easier. Many here will advise to drive your truck for awhile and enjoy before tearing it apart. Your truck will let you know what needs to be done!

Some photos

Plan to run it for now, take stock of the immediate needs to keep it safe and useable. Then, frame up resto in due course.
I'll be asking many questions over the next few days/weeks so look forward to meeting a bunch of like minded gearheads!!

Cheers, John

John, welcome to this fun place. I hate you! nothing personal but if that was my truck I'd drive the wheels off it. Very nice truck. It seems all the new comers have a nicer truck than I. I don't really hate you just envious. Some day my truck too will be nice. We do love pictures and please do drive it.

Wow, John, what a nice truck. A very unique sunshade over the front windshield. I like it. Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you on board. Your wife has great taste in trucks. Looking forward to you joining the discussions.

Thanks....

Thanks to all who took time to say welcome. As soon as I get my Factory Five Cobra project finally finished it will be full steam on the F1 quick fixes then drive some of these beautiful roads up here in MI.

Later, John

Hey John,
Congratulations on your Ford F1! It's great to see another '50 on here!
You may want to research the VIN on here as there was some overlap in the early years. Numerous members can help with decoding it.

That's a nice solid looking truck. Safety stuff we did:
o Replaced the original single chamber master cylinder with a dual.
o Dual windshield wipers.
o External door lock on both sides.
o (3) point seat belts.
o Replaced rusty old steel brake lines.
o Moved gas tank out of the cab to back under the bed.
o Fixed "death wobble" in the front end.

Good luck over there!

Hello and welcome from California!

Your truck is already in better shape that many of the projects that we see here!

We've all seen a few hack jobs done by previous owners (PO's). Be sure to spend some time to make sure that your existing engine mounts and trans mounts is done well...brakes are another sore point, but your truck doesn't have that "ran when parked" look to it.

Is there any back story to your truck?

Good Luck!!

Dan

Welcome. Very nice truck. Break down the reso project into winter season size projects then you can enjoy it during the summers, assuming you have a good shop building to work on it come winter.

Great score there Mate. Ya what's the back story on her?
What all has been done? M11 front? Disk brakes?
Looks like it has already been restored.
And lots of pics, we do like pics.

Welcome to FTE!

Your truck looks great! An absolutely perfect gift.

I think I would make sure it's safe and then drive it for years before changing anything.

I really liked the visor that Julie (hee hee) the Cool made. Seems it was modified from a sedan wasn't it?
Sure did fit the truck nice.

I often wonder what name he/she is using now?

welcome. Lots of nice places to see in Traverse City. When I was in those parts there was still lots of snow in winter. Nice truck! I have a brother on Duck Lake somewhere around there.

Beautiful looking truck. Shoot, it looks pretty much done to me. What are your plans for it.
Also pictures of the Cobra build would work too.

Welcome to FTE!
