Long time fan of Broncos with a few questions

Hello Ford friends.

I've never owned a Bronco but have wanted one since I was 15 years old. I absolutely love the 1992-96 models, but wouldnt mind the 87-91 if i ran up on a good deal. The question is, are there are any common problems to look for with these? I know about rust issues, but anything other than that?

Also I would plan on daily driving one if I end up getting one, how are they on fuel mileage in stock form? I know the 351 probably guzzles, but would it be any worse than my 05 F150 with a 5.4 that I have now?

Thanks guys!

It wouldn't be any better lets put it that way, I would stick with the 5.8...When mine was stock I was getting 13-14 mpg. Now with the lift over sized tires on stock gear ratio I am getting about 10mpg. If you would like to keep it stock height/tires you could also do a new exhaust system with a new cold air intake, open both ends up and you should get better mpg and horse power/torque. But also remember some will say, don't buy a truck if your worried about gas mileage

Well I am only getting 15 mpg with the 5.4 so shouldnt be too much worse. are the 5.0 engines any more efficient at all? Also how common are the engine combos? seems like the 5.8 is in most of them.

If you go with the 92-96 models I would find a 96. The earlier models had problems with the E4OD's. I think 95-96's had upgrades to the trans and plus they have the Mass Air Flow.

Love my 95! Can't help but to show it off sometimes!

I have a '93 with the 351 and I am getting 11.2 mpg in the city. On the highway I have gotten as high as 16. This is with the AC on 98% of the time though, as my electric window motors are shot, and I can't get them to roll the windows back up if I roll them down. I have had no issues with my transmission, however, I have only put 6k on it in the less than two years I have owned it. But it does have 239k and still going strong.

I would say no. Some may disagree others wont but I think the 5.0 is a tad under powered for the full size bronco which is what about 2 tons? I think the 5.0 may run at higher rpms than the 5.8 in the bronco.

If I remember correctly I think the 5.8 engine is in 60% of the Broncos (for the 92-96 style) and the 5.0 in 40%. That is according to Autozone's website. I too feel the 5.0 would be underpowered in the Bronco, however, there are people who have them that would disagree, so take my opinion just as it is, an opinion.

Well, I get about 6MPG highway in my ol gal. Hehe don't worry though, mine is an old broad at 35 years old with a tired drivetrain and big tires. I also can't really learn to keep my foot out of the gas, I just love that roar!

My 96 Eddie Bauer gets around 15mpg on the highway and around 12 in the city. All stock with the 5.8L. My son has a 96 with a 5.8L that has headers and 33 inch tires with a 3" lift and he still gets about what I get in mpg.

I get 8.5 in my old girl. Dont matter if you drive slow, dont matter if you drive fast. Only thing that makes a difference is kickin the 4 bbl in. I suspect she gets about 5 then. Dont matter though, I'll still pull any jap made 20 mpg truck out there, and prolly most american made one's too.

I've got a 95 EB with 5.8 (actually my son has it now) We get 16 on the highway with 31's and 3.55 gears. His sister has a 77 5.0 with 3.73's and 33's with a C-4 the we built from the ground up and she gets 12.
On the 95, I replaced the rear diff since I flooded the original one crossing a creek and before I got home the carrier bearings went. The only other fix has been the fuel pump. Other than that its been rock solid. We put Excursion seats in it for the 6 way power set up and changed the color over to the black and Sante Fe from the cream and Sante Fe just because he liked that scheme better. The only rust was at the bottom of the tailgate bout an inch long. Hope you find a great deal. I'm looking for a 78/79 for me now. Good luck
