Truck won't start, then it does.

I tried testing the truck today but it would not give the problem. I drove it around until it was up to normal temp and parked it in the driveway. I removed the coil wire from the dist cap and connected with a spark tester to ground. I connected a test Led to the wire on the ignition module and had my son crank the engine to look for the Pip signal and it was strong and steady. I moved the Led light to the coil connector to see if the ignition module was sending the signal to fire the coil and it was good also. I reconnected the coil wire to the dist and it started right up.
I am going to keep the test equipment and a remote starter switch in the truck so when it does act up I can trouble shoot it.
An unrelated job I did was flushing the radiator and filling with fresh antifreeze today.

Two days in a row I haved stopped on my way to work and the truck would not start. So I thought finally I will be able to trouble shoot the problem and narrow it down to a part. I popped the hood connected my test Led and the remote starter switch. It started on the first click of the switch. I think the truck is taunting me!

I got tired of trying to catch the problem with the test light so I replaced the ICM to start with yesterday. I figure I have a 50/50 chance of it being the ICM or the Pip sensor on the dist. The ICM was the easiest part to replace so I did it first. I may have found the reason for the trouble. When I removed the ICM I noticed the heat sink compound had dried up and wasted away. It could be why it happened when the truck was warmed up and in the summer heat. Time will tell.

Still have the problem but with cooler temps it is less frequent. I have been carrying a remote starter switch and an Led test light. When the problem happens I connect the test light and remote starter switch. It always fires right up this way, not sure why. The last time I just used the remote starter switch first and it would not start. I then connected the test light and it started right up. This will at least keep me from being stranded. I just ordered a new distributor from partsgeek to install next weekend if the weather cooperates.
