Ok .. You guys tempted me ... What are the real advantages of installing a SD inter cooler ? I can get the whole setup for 150 Obo , even though my wife would kill me spending more money . I realy need to know if it would be worth the effort ? The SD has about 400k mls and he is parting it out .
If it is an early 99 or e99 year then yes. The later models or L99 SD's use a 3inch outlet spyder and it doesn't fit our trucks, e99 is direct bolt on.
You need spyder + boots+clamps, pipes and of course IC. Pipes will need to be modified and likely additional boots will be needed.
Yeah its worth it though. However, I wouldn't go to the trouble of modifying the pipes. Plus I don't care for more boots than there has to be. If you wanted to do IC I suggest you do the CCV mod to avoid any oil contamination issues.
The mounts are not too hard for the SD IC. Depending on who you talk to some people say the good lever/support needs modified, others say its fine. Either way you do have to cut holes in your core support to get the IC end tank outlets through.
Lower mounts are easy, just some plate and square tubing or angle iron.
Besides the work of doing it . What real advantage does it have. ? Any better fuel mpg ? Maybe a little more power .. Even though I believe I have enough pwr .. Opinions ?
Do you think it would be worth doing it on my old truck, as I do not haul a lot ? She is mainly a daily driver and only used a couple times a year for a longer distance ?
When I debated about doing it, because I do not tow at all. My partner at work said lowering your egt's will extend the overall life of the engine. I was sold on that alone.
Make sure its an early 99 for the spyder. If not I ordered one from a shop sent to my door for 115$. I cant find the number right now, but if you need it I can get it.
