Couple unrelated issues this week.

I've had two issue from my truck this week.

The first issue occurs when my RPMs are around 1800-2300. I'm getting a sound that is almost identical to someone blowing across the top of an empty coke bottle. It's fairly loud too. Only happens when making boost. Sound goes away once I switch gears and then comes back once the RPMs get back up there. I did a boost leak check, found a few minor leaks and fixed them. Checked for side to side movement on my compressor wheel and there is none. Not sure what going on there.

The second issue seems to be electrical. Sometimes when I turn the key over, before starting, I get a clicking noise from under the dash. Click click click click click, etc. If I turn the key to off and then back it stops. Once started, the radio will not work nor the power locks or windows. They eventually come on. Sometimes these wont start working until I get a few miles down the road.

Lol, hopefully someone out there can shed a little light here. Thanks in advance.

I have the same howling noise and have been chasing for a long time now. Possibilities include turbine wheel on turbo, chipped cooling fan, leaky up-pipes, cracked intake tube.

Clicking noise and electrical issues sounds like the GEM to me.

Still not able to find the issue. Thought it might be EBPV related but checked that it is open and unplugged sensor. The fan does have a little bit of a shimmy, is this normal? That might be the problem. Any other suggestions that I might try out?

Sounds like your Gem got wet. It is common for the windshield or cab lights to leak and get the Gem and its plug wet. I had it happen once to me. I sealed my cab lights and never had another problem. The Gem is attached to the back side of the fusebox under the dash. If it gets too wet it may have to be removed to clean corroded connections.

You sure the humming sound isn't coming from your differential? Mine has a good hum in he same RPM range you identified, and it is most definitely my rear diff.

It's defiantly coming from the front passenger side. Sounds like it is in the engine compartment.

Could be your up-pipes leaking...The passenger side is usually the culprit on most trucks. The donut seal up at the top (at the collector) gives out and starts letting exhaust out before it reaches the turbo.

This sounds like it might be what's going on. I'm going to get in there tomorrow and check it out. Thanks
