Hey guys, got a '66 custom cab, what are my options for changing out original bench seat? Was thinking of trying something 60/40 with integrated belts. Was told that was possible but can't seem to remember what the donor needed to be. Can anyone help with that? Thanks in advance.
I think the later model Fords will work but they dont give you much room beside your seat as they are wider then the stock seat. Might try something like an S-10, a Ranger or maybe a Dodge Dakota or the Chevy Colorado.
(Hopefully) attached is a picture of 40/20/40 seat from a 2002 F150 installed in my '66 Custom Cab. As you can see, it can be done, but realistically they are too big. For this application we had to modify/rebuild the '02 seat frames to fit the original '66 floor holes. But you do get the integrated 3 point seat belts, drink holder/console, headrests, and lumbar support. You'd get recline, too, but there's no room for them to recline! There are also more than one style of 40/20/40 Ford seats so you have to be careful and get the smaller ones. One common error is not noticing that the cab bends inward as it goes up, so seats that fit at the armrest height may hit the cab by the time they get to your shoulders or head. There are lots of earlier than this alternatives that fit better and have been discussed on this forum.
Installed 60/40 from 87 Lariat seats in 65. You should be able to use seats on up thru 80's and possibly mid to late 90's. Will need to swap seat tracks with the 66. In addition, because the seats are wider one of the arm rest will need to be removed. I also had to use angle grinder to remove a corner of the seat release lever so it would not hit against the tank. Since I intended to have the seats re upholsters I removed the headrest, once I removed the head rest, found it was nothing more that a boxed piece of thin sheet metal, now the top of the seat is level with the bottom of the back window. Then there's also bucket seats as superSabre installed.
