Flywheel Spacer and rear Diff Info needed

two quick questions:

1. is there a spacer between the flywheel and the engine required, as there is between a flexplate and the engine?

2. heading back to the Junk yard for some parts. How do you identify the rear Differential Ratio. My Truck is just a 2wd , but has 4:10 gears and i do not like the high rpm on cruising. Now while i am doing the manual swap, i was considering the smaller gears.

thanks for any quick help

1. No

2. There is a tag under one of the bolts that hold the diff cover on that has the ratio on it.

IF there is no tag you can jack up the rear and count the number of driveshaft revolutions to one tire revolution. Your only other option out of an obs is 3.55's. You can use 3.73's out of a superduty rear if you want to/can find them

thanks.. that was quick.

does the tag tell me the ratio or just a code? what would the door sticker code be for the 3.73 gears?

also does the one from and f250 fit on a dually axle?

The tag will tell you the ratio, and it will be either 3.55 or 4.10, no 3.73s. They were not offered in these trucks.

door tag is just a code. I have no idea on the 3.73's. I better make sure I'm right on this. I THINK the dually is still a sterling 10.25. Is that right Bill? If it is you can use the SD gears.

Or is the dually a dana 80?

The dually pick-ups (not the cab and chassis) are a Sterling 10.25, but you can't use SD gears in them. The SDs are 10.50.

They are 10.5, but you can use them. At one time Neal offered to sell me a set of 3.73's out of a SD but I passed.

I was going to say Dana, but that is the F-Super Duty. The cab and chassis have 10.25 Sterling also.

Where the ratio is, is there an L between the first and second digits? E.g., 3L55 would mean limited-slip 3.55, whereas "3 55" would mean open 3.55.

Also, if you think it's the original diff, what is the axle code on the door/jamb sticker?
