EGR Warranty?

Had an issue this morning. Been noticing a slight loss in power the last few days when accelerating. Not much, but enough to notice. This morning I went to pass a vehicle and the vehicle gave a shutter like it lost acceleration power for a split second. It was enough to alarm me and I thought "what the hell was that." I accelerated a few more times to test and it seemed a bit sluggish. Then the engine light came on and I pulled over immediately and checked everything....and all was good. The Ford dealership was right down the street so I took it in. Service called me and said diagnosis was "one" bad EGR valve. Cost....$850 to replace. And he said its not covered under my "Extracare" Ford extended warranty.

Question: Is this covered under Ford Emissions Warranty? It's a 2008 250 with 83k miles AND Ford "Extracare" extended warranty. I thought emissions went to 100k.

What the heck did I buy an extended warranty for if crap like this isn't covered?

Nope, not under ExtraCare

Personalized Vehicle Owner Information

You would need to have had the Premium ESP to cover Emission to 100k.

did your 5 year/100K motor coverage expire as well?

Have them look the part number for the EGR valve itself up to verify coverage.

Don't know what the original sale date of the truck is. I purchased it 1 1/2 years ago as second owner. It has 83K miles now. I thought EGR went to 100K miles on emissions.

Thanks.....

From what I understand, it is under the 5/60k. Emissions do not make it to the 100k level. I had a cracked DPF at 56k. Ford service told me that I was lucky that it was under the 60k mark as its not covered over that. I feel that EGR falls under the same unless you have the Premium ESP and still the DPF is not covered but EGA and related components are covered.

I am beginning to think that these Ford service centers make up their own rules. If I can still find the old invoice as its been 2 and a half years, it stated the 5yr/60k warranty. I wonder if that is just default wordage....

Got it! I would have thought that with the VIN and part number, Ford would have come back showing the warranty on this. Oh well, it was covered at 56k so no skin off my nose that time. I was unaware of the change in the 2009 year. Got edumacated again by this forum.....

IM PISSED!!!!

Just got home from Planet Ford (Spring TX.) picking up my truck from service. Service said I owed $867 to replace the "EGR Valve". I directed the service guy to page 21 in my 2008 Warranty Guide where is specifically states under the Emissions warranty...."Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Sytem" is covered to 100K miles for diesel engines" that I C&Ped on post #10 above. I had it in my hand and specifically pointed it out.

NO DICE, this dude wasnt having any of it. I said..."its right there in black and white". He said "well.....this is the EGR valve (part # 8C3Z-9D475-D), its not covered" . I replied...."the warranty book says 'EGR SYSTEM is covered to 100K miles',are you telling me with a straight face that this EGR valve isnt part of the EGR system?" and I also pointed to the paragraph below that says all parts accociated with those systems are covered. He said his hands were tied. The service manager was sitting right behind him listening and watching the whole conversation and this service guy even went and discussed it with him. Still nothing. I had to pay $867 of my hard earned money for a service or product that I was sold as warrantied. Unless Im missing something that I am not aware of or a fact that I am ignorant about........That my friends is deceptive trade practices.

You sell customers a product and tell those customers, such and such is covered in your warranty and then not cover it when it when that product fails! THATS BS!!!

To any of you potential Ford customers.....buyer beware.

As senix has suggested, captainkbt, shoot me a PM with your information so I can look into this for you and see how I can help. I'll need your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name. I'll keep an eye out for your message.
