04 F150 Vibration between 40-45 and 52-62

I recently had u joints and left front wheel hub assembly replaced at a local mechanic. Ever since I have a vibration between 40-45 and 52-62, the vibration can be felt in the steering wheel, the seat and the floor. The mechanic claims I need a new driveshaft as some of the counter weights were starting to rust. I indexed and removed the drive shaft and had it rebalanced at a local machine shop. This did not help the vibration problem. There is also a transmission leak starting from the extension housing. Any ideas or how I can start to trouble shoot the problem.

You are asking about two problems vibration and leaking transmission tail stock.

My version yours may be different.
I chased an annoying vibration after balancing all four tires the alignment is good and there was no tread separation. As a test I over inflated the tires by about 7psi. and took it for a short drive on a smooth road, the problem wasn’t gone but reduced significantly.

I’m a firm believer in not turning a tire in the opposite direction of rotation once it has been broken in so to speak. I had the tires flipped on their rims, allowing me to put the front right on the left and left on the right but still maintain the same tire rotation.

This worked and removed about 90% of the vibration and the remaining 10% was gone at “normal” highway speed of 65mph. I also run the front tires about 5 to 7psi under maximum.

Ending tire note: it’s the make of tire I have and once I can spring for a set of BFG’s or Goodyear this problem will be gone.

Okay the transmission tail stock; had the same thing and if it’s what I experienced the rear transmission mount area has succumbed to what’s know as electrolyses and has ether weakened the tail stock to the point it cracked OR has eaten through the housing.

The area will most likely be all oily now but a quick check should show corrosion right where the rear tail stocks is mounted to the rear cross member, if it’s dry it’ll look like a bunch of baking soda.

The only choice I had was to replace the tail stock and the replacement part came heavily painted.
