Head gasket replacement, 4.6 Triton

I have a 1997 F-150, 4.6 L Triton with a blown head gasket. The last head gasket I replaced was on a 1987 Ford Ranger but have replaced several head gaskets on Fords, Chevy's, Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles in the past (way in the past). Any special tricks or challenges I'll be looking at here? Also, what is the overall cost range if I do it myself vs having the work done elsewhere (cringe at that idea).

Any special tools I'll need?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis

If you scroll a ways further down on the main forum page you will find a 4.6/5.4 forum. Grashopr has just tackled this and he might have some good insight for you.

Thanks,

Yeah, I read the exchange... doesn't look all that pretty but it can be done while saving a bundle it looks like. I've printed up most of the thread.
