Mack Compressor

I want to thank all of you who responded to the problem I have with the compressor, it made the problem easier to bear., I am a member of a Mack board - think FTE but for Mack trucks - the regulars there kind of adopted us when we bought the Mack - we were full time living in it at that time, so they reckoned that someone living in a Mack truck was probably up there in Mack Nut levels. Any how, I posted the problem there and had some useful posts, that helped in finding a compressor to replace it with, but just had two replies that told me where the compressor was, with links to pictures of it, so I know what to look for, and how many bolts, and things to watch when changing it. That takes a weight off my mind right now, as the expected cost is less than $500 for the unit. It weighs 60 pounds, so won't be very easy hefting into place, but at least I know how it is attached and how it should be removed. Apparently the power steering is attached to the back of the compressor, using the same drive for both. I will take a look in daylight and see how easy a fix it is.. All I need now is a young version of me's muscles.

DANG IT! I DONE TOLD YOU NOT TO HAVE A BREAK-DOWN THAT FAR AWAY FROM ME!


Now all I can do is wait and watch - which is always hard for me to do....

But if MAPLES can get help, we must have someone out around there....

Never mind Dutch, you never know, you may have a tent and a vehicle before I can afford the compressor..

I DO have a tent - I set it out to air the insides of it!

The vehicle is the part I am struggling with.....

There are quite a few of the "diesel" guys up around Knoxville....surely one or two of them could swing by after work or something to assist. Guys & gals, what say ye?

Need money for the new one first... I spent way too much on getting here - what with tires and other stuff.

You should include all of that in a lawsuit!

I mean look at it - you had every reasonable expectation to be SETTLED.

I'd go find the biggest and nastiest lawyer licensed to practice in the state of Tennessee right now, even if I were travelling on....

There is such a thing as "PRO BONO", meaning that there is enough cake in it that they are willing to go to the wall for a percentage of the expected eventual settlement.
(Above and beyond what is returned to you)

You are entitled to the costs you have incurred as a result of your own inconvenience and additional expenses - and you should persue it!

*There is also mental anguish and disturbance....

You can take those people to the cleaners, if you so choose.

What they have done makes them vulnerable. STUDY that

The mechanic arrived and discovered the problem to be wrongly adjusted brakes, done by a so called mechanic in Idaho when they replaced the rear tires. It does not surprise me that they had done it wrong, and also the air dryer wasn't doing a good job nor the auto purge for the air tanks. This made the air available insufficient to operate the very wrongly adjusted brakes. By tweeking the air dryer, and removing the auto purge the truck would keep air. Fortunately the compressor was still working, as was the hydraulic pump behind it.. A quick service for the governor and draining the system of the nice wet air round here and all was well. This makes me extremely happy, as mechanic I am not and had n clue how to diagnose the problem. The mechanic also found an exhaust leak in the engine bay, and an air line that needs replacing. He suggested that I could do the work, but I prefer not to.. The truck needs a service, so I arranged for that to take place next week - Thirteen gallons of engine oil, three oil filters, three fuel filters and one coolant filter. Two air filters and another filter that I have no clue what it does, underneath the cab. There are a couple of air-leaks in the cab and one of the seats no longer works.. maybe they can look at that whilst we are there. And the air conditioning does not work... Quite a lot of things to look at, so I had better make a list.

It is a great relief having the truck fit again.

Nice looking rig in my opinion. I would be proud to drive it.
I know it is not much help but I know a real good big rig mechamic up here in NE Tn. He operates out of Bristol. I use him alot when I need fleet or trailer help. He works on our yard trucks too. He has a full traveling shop and can do most anything you need in his trailer he travels with. Almost all he works on is big rigs.

I love the truck - it has personality.. We get eleven mpg if we keep it below 60, and nine mpg, under 70.. Top speed is 75, happy speed is 70. Empty it weighs 21,500lbs with a GVW of 31,000lbs. With a 30,000 lb pintle hitch on the back we can about tow anything.

Pretty cool truck/camper! Your mileage is no worse (and maybe better) than a motorhome. It's not much worse than my '66 F100.

Glad you got her running again.

You know what blows my mind about that rig, and always has?

11 per gallon was what the F100 I started out at FTE got - no matter what I did.

But THAT THING is MONSTROUSLY big alongside that truck...
