Project Buzzard my 74 F-100

I wanted to start keeping a record of my project truck that I call Buzzard, a 74 F-100 with a 390 automatic. I bought this truck almost two years ago now. I knew it needed some work when I got it, and most of that work is finished. It would have been farther along but I got hurt at work and not long after I bought the truck I went through the first of three surgeries and many procedures and physical therapy in between. I am a Corrections Officer (will retire soon most likely because of the injury) and I screwed up my left arm permanently wrestling with an inmate, and it doesn't help that I am left handed, or at least used to be. So now after my last surgery and some new normality I got the truck out of hock three weeks ago. The 390 was rebuilt and a set of headers went on because the exhaust manifolds were cracked. In between are new brakes all the way around, tires and shocks in addition to exhaust (needs to be finished up). I just had new U-joints put in and the rear end serviced and next week I hope to have the exhaust done up and then maybe start doing some cosmetics, little things until I can afford larger like the front bumper and grill. I love driving it though and even with the paint looking ragged it gets attention, plus with the headers and thrush glasspacks it does get loud. I have a few things I am working on that at least I can do, like cleaning up the set of airhorns that I got off a 1967 White cabover and a horn from a Plymouth Road Runner. Underneath is really nice since it was originally a southern truck.

Here it is when I first got it home after I bought it.

Here is the 390 as I got it.

Here is the inside as it sat when I bought it.

Here is the motor and the truck as the guy was rebuilding it for me

Here's the truck the day it came home

A couple weeks back I dropped by the local car show here in town, they hold one every month through the summer. It's nothing big, about 12-15 cars and a cruise through town. I knew I wasn't going to win anything, but it was nice to finally be in one with something instead of watching every else have fun.

I haven't decided where I want to go with this truck in the long run, I have a lot to do still, thinking about maybe a rat rod but not sure, if I redo the body and paint it will either be black or candyapple rec with a white roof in either color. Still quite a ways to go.

Looks like you started with a pretty solid truck. These trucks can be great therapy .......leading to a severe case of frustration .
Have fun.

Congrats. I've got a similar project and parallel starting point.. the theme is "lo-buck" for the most part with a few goodies thrown in: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ide-build.html

I'm gonna leave it f'ugly on the outside with a clean, well detailed engine compartment and running gear, period-correct interior with 70 Mustang buckets and probably a late model big Bronco console.

Here's some food for thought on where to start: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...p-by-step.html
