That should be the pan only, but the gasket is reusable and is the same needed as the one you have already. Unless you want to replace for the heck of it, which makes sense.

Chris has it covered, Jude -- I re-used mine and it is dry as a bone... Just be diligent about evenly torquing the pan, I think that's where most leaks come from: over or uneven torquing...

Good thread with lots of great information leading me to want to do this to my truck. The thread turned into a bunch of childish crap for a while, but then got back on track.

Thanks to everyone that posted up all the good information.

Just, did this upgrade 2 weeks ago now, couldn't be happier. Ended up replacing the valvebody/solenoids with a rebuilt unit at the same time.

Just in case the P/N's get lost in this thread here they are again:

*Genuine Ford Transmission Oil Pan 8C3Z-7A194-B
*12 pack case of Motorcraft Mercon SP transmission fluid (mine only took 9.75qt to refill)
*Motorcraft FT-180 Transmission Filter

I left my spin on filter installed for the record, I have not seen over 175F in the transmission fluid once in the past 2 weeks of towing a trailer/moving my house.

Good show!! Here is the filter P/N: 8C3Z-7A098-D

There probably was some fluid in the valve body/solenoids -- most folks are putting about 9 qts in with a new filter and more like 8 if you just dump-n-fill...

Thank you for the oil filter P/N, yep indeed there was what seemed like a lot behind the valvebody which would account for the extra fluid.

Thanks for everyone that contributed to this thread. I wanted to add some pics and torque specs I didn't see when I read through it.

The torque on the pan bolts is 11 ft-lbs (unless someone has a different spec).

Here are some additional pics.

Uhh, LV in a 5R110? I thought SP was the only fluid it takes.

I'm not trying to bust you but I spent a ton of research on the subject and Ford did recommend LV in place of SP but that didn't last long as they started to replace transmissions. The last I knew was SP is the fluid and no others in the 5 speed transmission.

Motorcraft® Transmission Fluids ? The Official Ford Parts Site | FordParts.com

Read the specs on LV and on SP. The SP is designed for Torque Shift transmissions.

Is it worth the gamble to use the cheaper fluid?

Might want to either retrain yourself in research or try different methods, especially when Ford's own documents and also the actual transmission engineer recommends LV.

Fordparts.com is compiled by low paid interns FWIW and hardly the authority.

And if you scroll to the bottom of the Fordparts page there is the link I gave that was updated Aug-2017 with recommended fluids.
