I was plug and play, I didn't have to do anything but bolt them on and plug them in.

I bought a pair of Ford adapters from Sunrise Ford in Fontana CA for about $50. (Helps if you are a member of Powerstroke Nation--great discount. They were 4 wire but I robbed pins out of the 10 pin rectangular to 4 pin round adapters that came with my mirrors (08 with heat) from 1A auto and revised the plug on the mirror. Oddly, my 01 XLT came with the flat 10 pin that they supposedly didn't make until '03!
