Do they go bad??
Are they like a spark plug and can be pulled and cleaned/scraped off?
My EGT gauge quit working. Every thing appears connected and tight. Gauge lights up when headlights come on.
How would you test to see if it has indeed failed?
I know its 12 years old now but still..............
Turns out the gauge itself was bad. Replacement was kinda a chore.
Temporarily spliced new gauge into old thermocouple line and gauge works fine.
However, new gauge has a 3/8" square connector that carries the signal from the thermocouple vs the old one that had spade terminals.
So lots of practice with soldering. New gauge is also very slightly smaller diameter so fitting it into gauge pod made for a sloppy fit but a wrap or two with aluminum tape around the case (not visible) and its as snug as the old one was.
Yes it is possible that they go bad. I was having problems with my egt gauge awhile back. I called the company and they said it was more than likely the probe but it was out of warantee and they couldn't help me. I told them ill buy two more egt gauges because I had a feeling it was the gauge and not the probe and they gave me a discount and I now run dual egt gauges and have a spare probe.
Took Herc out for a run this morning and I was able to get the gauge to register (very slowly) up to 300 by rapping on it. (Should have been 5-550). It would very slowly drop to 150 when I decelerated down a long hill.
Maybe it is the gauge as you found out. I'll never find a gauge around here and hate having to await shipment. Oh well.
