on a 53 f100 are the fender support rods needed ,, i am getting ready to install a brake booster on firewall and i think i might have to move one

I've seen trucks running without those braces.

 

Those braces are essential to the front end alignment and hood operation. Trust me, Ford didn't put an unnecessary piece of metal or extra bolt into their trucks. See my front sheet metal alignment procedure:

wow thats not good to hear,, my boost setup will be here on fri and i know its going to be in the way ,, one of them is anyway ......so now what ??

Perhaps you can just relocate the firewall end. Up or to one side.

 

What if you made the rod longer and moved the attachment point closer to the middle? That seems liker the easiest, cheapest way to go. Jag

 

I have the same issue. I've decided to make a C shaped flat metal bar (curved on the flat) to attach to the firewall bracket, go around the booster and connect to the shortened rod on the driver's side.

 

post some pics when you get it ,, i need to learn how adjust mine,, i know no one has ever done it after all these years

It will be a while before I get ready to put the front sheetmetal back on.

 

Those rods are necessary because the cab and front sheetmetal is all mounted on rubber isolators...the rods add rigidity in a free-floating system. I mounted my radiator core support rigidly to the frame and eliminated the need for the rods.

 

well there has got to be a way to install the brake booster,, or they would not make them ?? , i guess do a horse shoe piece of metal around the booster and have the rod to connect to that ,, it will look stupid but it will work ??
