Killed my T-Case...

Well it sure was loud when it snapped in two!

Just thought I'd share the carnage so I could laugh with you guys (instead of cry...). The truck was unloaded and in 2wd and blew at 70mph.

Anyway, another case is going in today.

I honestly have no clue. I've only owned the truck for about 18 months, but the previous owner seemed to have maintained it well. Anyway, it's too late now.

Hello, did the transfer case have oil in it?? Or did you clean the case before taking the picture? Seems there is no oil splatter.

Yes it did have oil in it. It was ALL over the undercarriage, but the pic was taken after it had been wiped down.

xmontex4 it never lost power, but I shut it down as soon as it went BANG. There was a period of 10 or 15 seconds right before it blew up that it was grinding super loud. But I was in heavy traffic and didnt have time to react.

While one of the U-Joints is wearing out, you could still easily move it by hand.

That's the 3rd one in 6-8 months on here. And they seem to have all happened at 70 or so mph.

Well the truck is all done and I ended up having the driveshafts rebuilt to be on the safe side. Seems to be running/driving really well now.

I'll post some pics of the inside of the T-Case tomorrow. Really glad to have it back on the road, but the repair bill always hurts... just life i guess!

Thanks for the comments/info guys.

Well I went the used route and the shop owner is a really good friend of mine (and I used to be his assistant manager...)

The used case was a $1000 with 59k miles on it and a short warranty.

A reman jasper would have been about $2500 which is on par with a new one from Ford.

I took the safe route and rebuilt both driveshafts too, so that was quite a bit extra.

I have way too much money into this truck (I put a new bed on it last year), but the way I look at it is it's still cheaper than a new Super Duty.
