Loud Screeching Noise From Rear End?
Hey guys. I finally got my belt problem figured out and fixed and now this. I just noticed it today. It doesn't seem to be when I press on the brakes hard it just seems to have something to do with the rear of my truck when i gently apply the brakes. It doesn't happen every time though I was only able to get it to make the noise 3 times. Any idea what might be causing this? It's a pretty loud screech noise. Its really sharp sounding. Its hard to describe but it doesn't sound like a wear indicator on disc brakes its a good bit louder. It sounds like it is coming from the rear drivers side.

Go to the parts store and get a drum brake hardware kit for it. It will have springs and adjusting mechanism parts, and should be less than $10. On my old Ranger, the adjusting lever came loose and rubbed a pretty good groove in my drum before I could get around to fixing it, so I'd recommend doing this sooner than later.

Way back with my first truck ('85 F-250HD) I had an intermittent squealing from the rear that sometimes started/stopped when I touched the brakes. It eventually proved to be worn wheel bearings. This was a full-floater Dana 60 and the rollers were absolutely trashed (more the shape of packing peanuts than rollers). Might be something to consider if it doesn't turn out to be brakes.
