460 electric fan mod

Sounds like a worthwhile mod to do....get some drag off the engine with removing the clutch fan...who here has done it? Worth it? What's involved wnd what fan did you use? Thanks for any help.

The 460 has so much torque I honestly don't think you'll notice it. On a non torquey little 5.0 you're most likely only going to gain maybe 5 to 10 hp to the wheels so on a big torque monster like the 460, I seriously doubt the gains would be worth it or even noticeable.

But if you do want to do it, the Lincoln Mark VIII electric fan is a BA fan. Draws tons of air. And I wouldn't go aftermarket with an electric fan unless you want to dump a lot of money.

Also a 2g alternator won't handle an electric fan. A 2g alternator can't even handle the factory electronics on these trucks. Ever been driving on a cold rainy night, have your heater, wipers, and head lights on and your volt gauge drops? An electric fan will only worsen this. Except if you have a 3g and you'll be alright. But you didn't say the year so I can only guess at what you have. Which I'm assuming it's your '95 and if so, that might have a 3G. I'm by no means an expert but I know my '92 has a 2G

The power to run the fan has to come from someplace. Whether it is mechanical or electrical you have to pay the price. If you have a good working fan/clutch assembly then leave well enough alone.

Personally I am not a promoter of e-fan conversions based on trying to "improve" MPGs or driveability. In simple terms: it ain't gonna happen.

it is very worthwhile to do for a great deal of reasons.this is for the diesel engine, however i think you'll find plenty of helpful info to get you going for the 460 as well:
