I have since added side bed toolboxes on each side with LED tail lights wired in the boxes. I also have insulated garage door panels that line the walls, giving me the ability to haul gravel or dirt.

End of hijack. Sorry.

I do think the short wheelbase limits their towing abilities, but they will still tow.

I wonder how a 8 foot flareside bed would look. Ford didn't have those did they?

Yes, but not in the 80's.

Sure they did.
In fact, they made a 9' flareside until 1972

Find one of these beds and add the 80 to 86 fenders. There is an extra stake pocket hole in the middle and you would need a portion of the metal step from the 80 to 86.

I did a quick google image search. They look pretty funny to me. I think I would like a short wide better than a line flareside.

A little more body work progress. Got the hood completed as well as the cowl cover. Thank God for my loving wife who despite having a full load of stuff to do makes time for me to work on my projects. I don't give her enough credit sometimes.

Up next is the roof hail damage. Then I will strip the truck of accessories, prep, spray primer, final sanding procedure, then build the paint booth and shoot the top coat. I am going blue. Sort of a dark sky blue, kinda navy but a little lighter. Hard to describe.

I may go get some wood tomorrow for the flat bed.....dunno yet. I really need to focus on paint first. Then build the bed.

would there be enough room to put in a third box between the rear lights for a spare tire and a jack

Yes there will be. I may have to use that space for exactly that. Basically, the spare would go exactly where it was stock, but because of the taller bed height, I will be able to completely hide the tire.

What gas tank???

lol I removed the rear tank a year or so ago because I was having too many issues with the dual tank setup. I run only the front now. So I have a TON of room in that area now.
