I put the Tru-cool on my Chevy Express utility van which weighs in at just under 12K loaded. Climbing hills in 100 degree plus temps, stop and go city traffic with AC crankin my tranny never goes over 180 (put in an Autometer gauge). Before the Tru-cool it was off the charts, almost cooked the tranny by the time I realized how hot it was getting. The fluid was black after the first summer. I had the Tru-cool laying around after I bought it for the PSD but then decided to go with the 6.0 so I slapped it on that Chevy. I'd say if you are short on cash go for it, I got the big one 40K GVW.

That's a big trailer. My advice is don't be penny wise and pound foolish. You have coin dropped into the trailer and the JW trans, spend the extra c note on the best possible tool for the job and be done with it. Your 7.3 cooler vs 6.0 cooler below.
I know times are tough as I'm in the same boat but with the investment you have in that hardware don't go cheap is the recommendation.

Agreed..go with the 6.0 cooler. The stacked plate design of the 6.0 cooler is more efficient than the fin and tubing design of the Tru cool.

The 4739-1 is a stacked plate design identical type as the 6.0 cooler. The 4739 has 3/8" fittings where the 6.0 cooler has 1/2" fittings. The 6.0 cooler (31 row) has 391 sq inches of surface area while the Tru-Cool has 193 sq inches of surface area.
While the Tru-Cool is good....the 6.0 should be superior. If you also go with the 1/2" lines from a 6.0 truck then a 6.0 cooler should be far superior.
I run a Tru-Cool 4739 in my F-450 and it works pretty well. It will get a serious test tomorrow when I tow my trailer to the mountains. Gross weight will be around 30k lbs and there are about 4 serious grades that are about 6% climbs for 3-5 miles. Ambient temp is supposed to hit 117 degrees so it's going to be a 'perfect storm' of sorts. If I see trans temps around 215-220 then I'll probably be looking at a 6.0 cooler along with the OEM 1/2" lines.
