Switching F-250 to Vinyl Floor

2006 F-250 Crew Cab

Looking to take out the tan carpet and replace with the standard "work-truck" vinyl. Any major concerns with doing this? I assume it might be a little louder, maybe hotter?

I've taken the seats out before, would the carpet be difficult to remove? I assume if you go with the OEM vinyl you will have all the holes pre-drilled trimmed etc, aftermarket maybe not so much? Would love to do a brown or tan vinyl but I don't think it's offered from Ford.

Thoughts opinions?

Did it in my truck and never looked back. Carpet is just laying in there. It will pull right out. I would reccomend a OEM floor. A lot easier of a install.

Why not put Linex on the floor?

So I assume you just take the seats out, take the console out and then take the door sills off?

My problems are the door pillars, no clue how they would come off, guess you need to remove seat belt? And in the rear the black plastic tray, the nut on the bottom spins free, I have no clue how to get it loose, have tried leveraging it with a screwdriver while turning it, nothing.

That said, would this defiantly be a DIY job or worth taking to an interior guy?

Unfortunately my truck has the center console, will that pose a problem as most of the XL trucks have a bench seat?

Line-X would be cool, but I am assuming there are wires and stuff down there that need to be covered? Has anyone tried?

IMO vinyl is the only way to go on a truck that will be used.I think the vinyl will deaden the sound a little better than Line X because unless things have changed the vinyl floors will still have a layer of insulation under it. I'll have to check my truck tomorrow to see if that's still the case since I have vinyl floors. You might get a little bit more heat transfer, but not enough that I would worry about it. I really don't think the job would be out of reach for the average guy who has an afternoon to spare, especially if you go with the OEM flooring.

Line X would be an awesome choice though too, since it's bonded to the floor you could just hose the cab out. That's something I wouldn't do with the vinyl flooring since water will find it's way underneath it. But my guess is that the Line X will be a lot more money since everything in the cab has to be ripped out and you're kinda stuck having the Line X shop do it since you really can't drive to them without and interior.

It's totally a do it yourself job. I would give yourself a afternoon. The door pillars pull off toward the center. All you would need to do is get the bottom popped loose. Shouldn't have to take any seat belts off.

So just grab the bottom of those pillar pieces and pull?

Any suggestions on that black plastic tray behind the back seat?

Was your vinyl OEM floor drilled for the console? Did you have to make any cuts or was it pretty much plug and play?

I have to make a couple holes. Pull out your carpet and put it on top of the vinyl and cut anything you need before you put it in.

Anyone have a checklist on removing the old carpet? Seat removal, consoles, and door sills are easy. I'm not sure about the rest., worried about breaking trim pieces, they can get expensive.
