After market performance shifter for 5 speed manual

I want to change my shifter since it is realy worn and tough to shift but don't want to just go with a stock replacement,I want to go with soemthing more performance oriented. Does anyone know have any ideas? if so please post links & more than one option would be great. The trans has 5 gears + reverse I looked in my chilton manual & there are 2 or 3 different 5 speeds: the mazda m5od, the ZF S5-42 & the ZF S5-47. I am not sure which one it is

Welcome to FTE.

Your profile says '96 F150, so that would be the Mazda box.

Just looking at Hurst and B&M, I do not see a shifter for that box.

That trans does have a history of wear in the shifter area, and shifter repair kits and shift forks are available and fairly easy to install.

Your truck may/should have an access panel in the floor, which will allow you to take the top off your trans.

The boxes used in T birds, Rangers & F150s are similar enough that these "how to" articles will help with your model also:

Thank's That is the type of repair I need all that stuff is what is worn(missing) on mine, I don't think I need the shift forks. But how can I tell exactly what trans I have? also could I just replace the sfift lever itself? for a different look say chrome?

The F150 would have the Mazda "M5R2", as they call it.

As for a different stick, no idea. Got a welder????? You could cut it and make your own.

If you are in doubt--I really don't think you could get the ZF in an F150--take a look at it and compare here. Verical/horizontal ribs = Mazda, diagonal cross hatch ribs = ZF.
