Buying 2001 F250 7.3

Hey guys I'm new and am currently going to be hopefully purchasing an 2001 F250 7.3L with 124,000 miles and a 6 speed. It has quite a bit of mods and was wondering if anyone has any tips that I should look at while viewing the truck that could help me determine if the truck is a good buy or not. It currently has the following mods:

124,xxx miles
garret Gt38R 88mm ball bearing aftermarket turbo
Fuel lab pressure regulated return system
4" turbo back banks monster exhaust w/ 6" tip
KCM stainless HPX oil line
K&N air cleaner
banks power elbow
4:10 gears
ARB air lockers front and rear with compresser and tank.
35" pro comp xtreme terrain tires
90% tread
casserly stage 2 injectors w/ 160 cc nozzles
Dp F6 tuner with 3 custom tunes
60 HP Eco. tune, stock modified and 140 HP race tune
Dp tuner gauge pod control
Autometer boost and EGT gauges
6" lift
Dual fox bypass front shocks
south bend clutch

Welcome. Sounds like it has a good amount of great parts. I am not, however, a fan of the K&N on these trucks. Heard too many horro stories.

Check the link for truck buyers guide. It has some really good stuff for you.

Thanx ill check out the link. The only thing that scares me is I've heard that the engines need to be forged like the rods for example. I am afraid to buy and have to put alot of money into it to have it forged. Any incite on this?

That's when you go significantly over 400 HP. Those injectors won't let you make power that will strain PMRs (assuming you have PMRs).

I second the motion to dump the K&N... but I've never had one on my truck, so I'm probably talking out my ****. I have the Ford AIS and I can't say enough good things about it... if you consider altering the mod list. Somebody loved that truck. Your economy is gunna suck with the lift and tires, but nothing as bad as a V10. I have a truck with the same injectors and turbo - big permagrin factor.

one thing i might do is see how old the DP tunes are, if there older might get them redone. they have a come a long way in the last years,

see what the build date on the door to see if you have pmr.

Yes, the '01's were the year they changed from forged to PMR's so you may be OK, and as Tugly said, you have to be significantly above 400 HP to worry anyway, so don't. It sounds like the previous owner took good care of the truck based on mods and mileage so you should have a gem on your hands.
