Gunk (oil in degas). Bad oil cooler i know.
previously i commented that there is gunk (oil) in the degas. i have spent the entire day flushing, per specs by many, only to still have oil in the water. the water temp is never high (not head gaskets), hopefuly.
no amount of flushing (17 gal of distilled) helps.
thread for r & r oil cooler would be helpful and who has the best? don't want the cheapest.
thanks...

yes ,take degus bottle out and you will be amazed how much gunk will come out. dont need this in the coolent system.now go back and look close to what Cheezit has posted. If you decide to go forth use a chem flush ( read directions carefully)and flush with a back flush (pull block plugs ) flush, not in this order but remove thermostat, in the equasion and install new OEM thermo.fill that bad boy with 50/50 mix ( distilled and ford OEM coolent to note ) top off after running ,same dis /coolent.

That's exactly what it is, brown sludge.
thank you. have done the flush, used the chemicals and did the 18 gallons of distilled water. should i try this again (without the chemicals) and pull the block plugs or am i wasting my time? thanks in advance for all of the advice here guys...

flushing the system with a bad oil cooler is a waste prior to fixing the cooler.
also flush with the t-stat removed
My two cents would be to listen to guys like cheezit,Bismic,Blade35; Those cats are on thier game with 6-oh's. If you have a leak from oil to coolant and you've flushed several times with same results, i.e. brown gunk in degas/cooling system then it's concievable you've got another issue besides a dirty cooling system that should be closed. I'm no expert but I'd check for coolant in the oil, milk shake in the oil filter housing or some other form of cross contamination. Hope it's not a ruptured oil cooler and best of luck with it.

Your oil cooler is no good. I use stock Ford oil coolers myself. After you install the new oil cooler add about 3 table spoons of Dawn dish washing soap and let it run awhile. Drain and repeat until all traces of oil are gone. And you might want to consider buying a new degas bottle because your old one will never clean up enough to be able to see the coolant level. Ford also sells a quart bottle of cast iron block cleaner that will get everything out of your coolant passages. Flushing is just a long and nasty process that you are going to have to do. Hope this helps
