anyone done it? what fan did you use? did you pull from another car/truck?
im going to some junkyards and would like to pick one up.
What are you wanting to achieve? Unless you are wanting to do long sitting while idling, there is nothing to gain. These old trucks have huge frontal openings. Keeping it moving forward 20 miles an hour will pump more air through than the fans.

That is true only if you have a fan shroud and you don't live it hot humid climates. When I replaced the stock 2 core radiator with the 5 core unit I now have, the fan shroud no longer fit. So long drives going over rocky terrain, pulling a hay wagon through a field feeding cattle, pulling treas that I have cut down out of the tree line, or even the occasional romp threw the mud are all times the truck would over heat.
Some say you gain MPG, but I feel like the engine has more power with out the fan on it. One thing is certain, it does not get hot anymore.........
Brad, I have been around these trucks since they were new, never had one with a shroud, and have not used one as a tractor like you have. So you got me on that one.
I do stand by my original should you use it for hyway use, towing or no.
Converting to an electrical fan frees up HP by eliminating parasitic drag. Gains can also be had by eliminating power steering and water pump - as drag racers do to eke out every lil bit of HP to reduce elapsed times where tenths and hundredths do count.

yea, 35mph and above, you will not have any problems. You can even sit and idle for half an hour with out much trouble. As long as you have enough time at speeds to cool things back down again. I suppose I came across wrong. I didn't mean to imply that you were completely wrong. You are right in fact. You don't NEED electric fans for most people. But the right fans, will provide a cooler engine regardless what your driving needs are. My fans will pull a combined 8000CFM, which is way more then what I get at any kind of city street driving speed.

mainly just wanting to get rid of the ugly clutch fan..
i know i dont "need" it just wanna clean up my engine bay, and a couple HP wont hurt.
I'm running an aftermarket aluminum radiator with my Mustang 5.0L setup and have been contemplating the same thing. I like the cleanliness of an e fan as opposed to the old stock steel unit.
Either Ford Taurus or Contour are the two most common swaps.
I was also looking at one from a 4.6 Mustang a week or so ago, and it looked like it would have been a perfect fit (radiator and fan combo).
what year t bird did you pull that from? looks nice!
Not sure of the year but probably early 90s.
I agree that a stock radiator and fan should do the job for a stock truck. But not so sure it would be adequate for a 400 HP 351W with an AC condenser and trans cooler in front of the radiator and a higher stall converter generating extra heat on a 100* day. Just depends on what you have and how you use it.

+1 free HP is to gain !!!!
my next trip to pick ur part is for a electric fan
