Seeing the pictures, I think it's a Custom.

Like Chris said, you should be able to figure it out with the codes.

What looks different to me is the gauge cluster. Did you swap clusters? I thought the tach cluster did not come with Customs and XL's. Another is the fenderwell trim. I didn't think Customs / XL's had that. I may be wrong about that trim.

Like said above, check the dash. The best way though is to decode the VIN number. Look at the door jamb sticker and check out the body and trim codes. These will tell you without a doubt.

Chris

I see a badge on the left fender in this picture. What does it say? That badge should tell you.
on the driver side fender, just the emblem f-150 and below a line only brings chrome without letters from what I saw in another truck only bring the description on the passenger side fender, I have reviewed the decals but they say the only type of truck specifications and if the board is the original tachometer if not even mention that and double tanqu gasoline and to my knowledge it has only lariat
if any of you can get me the original emblem new, will thank you too because here in mexico if parts but very low quality

sorry for the spelling, but I can hardly with Spanish, now imagine the English

Tomale una foto a la placa en el lado derecho del tablero, para leer lo que dice allí.

Take a pic of the right side of the dashboard so we can read the badge.

Different year so maybe it doesn't apply, but I had an '85 F-250 XL that I ordered new. I was able to order it with a tach.

I ordered it with an AM/FM/cassette stereo, cruise, cloth seats, bed light, underhood light and a sliding rear window. It also had a cloth headliner and wood trim on the steering wheel and dash. I did not order air, carpeting or power windows or locks, but I think I could have.

Wouldn't the trim level be listed on the title?

It isn't listed on the title to any of our trucks and I don't see how the vin can tell you what the package is.

Nothing special our 89 F250 has tach and it is an XL with headliner, underhood light, manual transmission, vinyl floors manual locks and windows, and wood grain so I think it may be an order thing. Unfortunetly my 88 F150 custom doesn't have a tach nor our 89 F350 XLT Lariat but my dad's 86 F150 XLT Lariat has one.

Also HD my 88 F150 custom and our 89 F250 xl had trim bumpers on them but I ended up taking replacing the trim bumper with a trimless one on my 88 F150. So I don't think the trim thing can help the OP find out what his truck is.

Wow, I had no idea that they could be ordered with so many variations back then. That's really cool though.

I double checked my FSM and the VIN and body code actually doesn't help much either, so I'm 0 for 2. Apologies if I mislead anyone!:

I found a couple links to get build sheets from Ford, but the pics I saw of them didn't show trim levels listed. All I can think of is to talk to a dealer.
