Please help!! 08 Ford F450 Diesel wont start

I was driving my truck, got about 2 miles down the road and then I heard a loud hissing noise and then truck died. Started again and it had no power but I did get it home. As soon as I got home and put in park it shut right off completely.
Now starter engages but truck will not turn over. Please help!!

before attempting to crank, check all fluids. If you are low on coolant stop. If you are way over full on oil stop.

I am think egr coolers.

The coolant is about 2 inches low and oil looks about 3/4" overfull

Are your tail pipes wet or sweet smelling?

I think I would have it towed in. It could be eating coolant

the concern to me is the fact that the starter will not turn the motor over and the fact that you have lost coolant and the hissing sound.

Leads me to be concerned that you are hydolocked and potentially you could cause further damage in the cylinders.

What about batteries. Just to be sure, have you checked your batteries to ensure they are not drained as you said it has sat for three weeks?

Yes, actually they were very low when it first happened, I charged them then had them checked and they are good.

True of what you are saying...I will take out plugs, drain oil and see if engine turns by hand tomorrow.....
Thank you so much for your help....will let you know. This site is great!

pay attention to #8 when you take the glow plugs out. That seems to be the one that collects coolant if the coolers are leaking.

I would also suggest that you pressurize and test the coolant system for leaks.

Hi Mark, welcome to FTE!

I'm going to send this one down to the 6.4L Powerstroke forum, that's the best place to get help for this. I agree with Scott, it almost sounds like you are hydrolocked.

So what exactly happens when you turn the key? Does the starter pinion engage the flywheel? Does it not turn at all?

One quick question- if someone responds from 6.4 Powerstroke Forum will it show up here or do I need to look somewhere else?

Need Help Please

I drained about 4 quarts of oil- smelled like diesel. I quickly hit the key it cranked and I stopped immediately. I then took the glow plugs out on both sides. Number 7 and 8 glow plugs tips are gone. Tried to crank over the truck and it did the same thing as before- starter engages then flywheel stops. Also, every glow plug all 8 of them had what looked like oily gas on them.
