I have a 1998 PSD van -- I have been trying for over a year now to figure out whether I fit with the 1997s or the 1999s ... and if I fit with the 1997s, I am unhappy that the 1998s are not smog exempt while the 1997 are.....
Anyway, can anyone help me figure out if I belong in this forum???? thanks.

At those miles, it may be on the original clutch, or it may be a replacement. Original was mated to a dual-mass flywheel (one of Ford's "better ideas"); if it's due for a clutch, you def. want to convert to single-mass. If the clutch has been done, see if you can find out if it was also converted to SMF.
Check for rust, esp. at the bottom of the extended cab. And the radiator core support, where the body mounts are.
If you have an electric fuel pump, then the fuel system is probably more similar to the 99+ Super Duty trucks, but if you have a mechanical fuel pump, then you're likely more close a'kin to the engines in our OBS trucks. The vans are a bird all of their own though, really.
yeah, we are kind of a different breed - stepchildren, sort of.
Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

If I recall correctly you still have the E4OD for a transmission though, right?
I don't mean to call you an oddball by any means. I've always thought it would be awesome to have a 7.3 powered E-350 4x4 as a camping / tow vehicle. It must be all those episodes of "The A-Team" I watched as a youngster!
