Help with replacing Air Filter - P0170 P0174

Hey Folks,

I may have found the reason I have been throwing P0171 and P0174 codes.

When I went to replace my air-filter I found that two of the four threaded inserts that the bolts screw into (that hold the air-box lid on) were loose and so they were not screwed down even close to snug. So there was not not a good seal.

The now immediate problem is I can't figure out how to remove them. I just tried unsuccessfully with a small set of vice grips. I can't get a hold on them. They are circular so sliding an open end there is also not an option.

Ideas? Anyone else experience this? If so... how did you remove and how did you fix?

Thanks
John

Keep pulling up while you try to turn the bolt, that's what I did and it worked.

Found some needle nose in the garage that worked to remove. I'm pretty peached off at the garage that did this and didn't say anything about. Both sides are cross threaded. Serves me right for being so lazy on having them do it in the first place.

I stumbled onto this thread. It looks like you can not buy the just the hardware.

Any fixes othet than zip ties or replacing the box?

The Zip ties did work fine... Thanks.

I did push one of the two remaining inserts out upon installation.

Cleared the codes and went for a drive. check Engine light came back on after about ten/15 mins of driving.

I am now throwing a P1151 in addition to the P171 and P174.

What year is this truck we're talking about? if it's the same gen as mine you either get 2 digit codes or 3 digit codes.
