Hey everybody, I have a 1979 ford f-250 custom 4x4 and it needs new rims and tires. Im pretty positive it has like a 1 or 2 inch lift. What are the biggest tires that would fit and also look nice? Also for the rims I should get 16.5's right? Im looking for some older style chrome rims for the truck. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
I wouldn't buy 16.5's if you can avoid it. It's an obsolete diameter. The tires are not readily available like a 16 or even a 17 or bigger. There are tires out there still, but I wouldn't count on that forever.

Tire selection in 16.5's is getting VERY limited. If you are buying wheels, look for 16's or 17's. Both have great tire selection. 17's being a bit more expensive. I got a set of 16" steel wheels for my '78 from US Wheels/Summit. Note not all 16" wheels will clear dual piston calipers. The US wheels did in my application.
I have 16.5" rims and I don't have any problems with getting tires. I just pick up some 36" or 37" military take offs for $95 a piece and run em til they blow out.
Just go get some slots or some chrome wagon wheels.
