68' 429 ThunderJet
Hey all,
I've got a 68' 429 ThunderJet in my LWB 66' F100. It's pretty much stock aside of carb, intake, dist., and ignition. I'd really like to throw a little hotter cam. I've been looking at a Comp Cams Thumpr cam and lifters kit with new valve springs, etc... Lift .506/.493
My curiosity is running this cam with my essentially stock heads. I do not plan on doing any kind of racing. I rarely get over 2500rpm. I would just like that nice lopey idle.
Any help would be great.
Thank you,
Jesse

That thing should have monster torque on the bottom end with a mild cam and the high compression. I will say this: Get new valve springs atleast, and make sure you have a new timing set and new lifters, but that cam at basically 500 lift is going to be pretty mild, my 545 has a 274/286 560 something lift and it lopes, snorts, and flat rips.

Angry, you have c8 head castings. To my knowledge there are no c6 casting heads. The heads are good, as they have the 75 cc chambers and the motor has a high compression ratio (around 11:1 I think). I would say for what you want the cam you selected would be a good choice for your application. I think your valve springs would be borderline on the lift as far as needing to change them out, but if you have the money to do it, I would go ahead and do it. When in doubt, ask the cam mfg if stock springs will work with their cam
