Bio Diesel in an IDI
While I realize this is a gas truck forum, I figured I'd post this here to see if any of us gas-truck-owners may have experience with a diesel.
SO long story short I'm looking at making bio-diesel. My '84 is my work rig and although I love her to pieces and she now owns a lot of my bloody knuckles, sweat and tears; I was debating buying a diesel down the road. Particularly one from 85-86 (our body types) w/ the 6.9 IDI.
Anyone know if bio-diesel will safely work or do I have to upgrade seals or anything. I so wish I could make bio-gasoline. ha-ha wouldn't that be amazing!
Anyhoo, just looking for some different opininons.
Thanks!

I have never run bio-diesel but this is what I have read;
The first few times you run it, you may have to change the fuel filter a couple of times. It tends to scour the fuel tank out, and all that junk ends up in the filter.
Certain kinds are hard on the rubber lines and seals of the fuel system. Most original rubber parts are Buna-N rubber, but some bio-diesel fuels work better with Viton rubber o-rings and seals. They also make viton rubber hose, but it's expensive.
