I vote to keep it. If its running okay I don't see any reason to get rid of it. Like I said above, my '07 has over 219,000 miles on it. The only thing I've done to it is regular oil changes every 3,000 miles using conventional oil.
I think that's one of the secrets to the longevity of these modular motors, routine maintenance.

The end of ownership depends on you.
Ability to finance another loan, trade in value of the truck, your willingness to keep repairing etc.
My truck is at just 260,000 and will keep, going to 300,000.
Just because I want to do it.
The motor is still perfect and has the same power as the day I got it.
Short oil and filter changes is the key with 5w20 MC.
Good luck.

I disagree with running any oil for longer duration .

This engine requires good clean oil to operate phasors . They operate hydraulically by order of pcm . There are filter screens along the way and they get clogged . It also has small oil passages to cams ,lash adjusters have small ports, poor oil flow causes a lot of damage .
Dump the oil early, keep it clean . Combustion carbon is dirt , I don't care if you run holy oil, it still gets dirty . This engine has a idiot gauge on oil pressure and it has a poor oem oil pump .
Think about 3k if you can . A timing job is around $1400 in parts . A reman is around $7500 installed .
Use only mc filters, they are cheap at wally world . 150kmi /3k oil change = 30 changes-- times $30 dollars =$900. Your choice .

Looking to keep my '07 a LONG time yet, regular changes using MC products, even built a car port for it just after purchase. Near 60K now.

I worked my 5.4 for 15 years and 352,000 miles before I decided to retire her. "Red" was a great truck to me. I wish her the best of luck. is

2006 F150 5.4 3valve. Regularly maintained including rear end, transmission, transfer etc. 310 thousand K's and shop said engine is done because won't even start due to low compression. Took it apart and the cylinders look like mirrors with the odd scratch from debris which wasn't helping. No cross hatch whatsoever. Just plain worn out.

I'm around 191k+ now, have had an asston of problems, but all I would deem "minor" or "due to the idiot who owned the truck before me". Nothing too ridiculously expensive. Most of the work I did myself which definitely saved on stealership costs for overpriced parts and labor charges. Better than having a truck payment I would say.

Mine's still cracking on well, 2005 6.0, 175000 miles. No expense spared on servicing and maintenance, oil changes every 5 to 6 k (API CI-4 / E7 15w/40) for the last 100,000 miles plus ELC coolant. Deltas a solid 8º. 19 (US) mpg without trailer. 9mpg with 14K trailer

My 2001 V10 is about to flip 190,000 miles, been flawless. Mobil1 oil change every 10k. Plugs and ignition coils changed around 120k. Fuel pump changed around 150k.

Its all a bet isn't it. I had no luck but I did believe the crap about syn oil being able to do 10k mi . With plastic parts and poor oil flow due to dirt and screens I have had a ton of work to do on this engine . I have all the upgraded parts from several years ago . I am very envious of the guys who get 300 to 500kmi no problems . I agree lots of oil changes help tremendously . Plus a lot of these 5.4 's use a lot of oil with a poor gauge and not checking oil every fill up is a trap . Getting misfires and jerks in the timing chain do to bad orig plugs did not help either .

you will have to answer that, only you know how well you have maintained your truck. There are posters in this thread with around half a million miles on their 5.4 that have had no major repairs.

My First motor lasted 225K I have an 05, Keep the oil changes and be sure to watch the can phasers and the and the timing chain tensioners. If you need to replace the timing chains and the cam phasers be sure to install the Melling higher capacity oil pump

Changed oil every 5,000 KM? That's 3,100 miles between changes?
