gopro camera in highboy?
Considering getting a gopro for my highboy and to use kayak fishing. I think its NBC steve who has one in his truck. Was wondering which model you all thought was the best? There new hero 3 black doesn't seem to have very hot reviews. And Steve, how did you mount it?

I got mine out of a Skymall magazine years ago when they first came out, so I have the older silver Hero 1 model.
A great deal price wise and pretty cool 170 FOV lens on the camera and the water proof case. But its has a fixed focus, so no zooming in, and no flash.
I got the kit they sell that has all the different mounts, and I have mounted in a lot of different places. You can even flip upside down the ability to take a pic or vid, in case your mounting set up will only work with the camera upside-down.
I made this red neck set up to quick mount it on my flight helmet NVG mount. Needless to say I have some great pic and videos, sorry I can't post them.
The kit has a elastic helmet strap (for your kayaking helmet) set up and a bunch of self adhesive mounts platforms and adjustable arms.
I plan on mounting it my Bronco push bar or front axle when I take it out next. Sorry for the fat finger and arms in the shot, I am still use to trying to look thru the view finder, not really necessary with the FOV lens, just aim and shoot you will get it all in the shot.

Thanks 77&79, and I actually wear a floppy hat fishing. No rocks to hit my head on and helps prevent sunburn haha. But I'm going to get a ram mount for my kayak so it will hold the camera on a pole behind me. Works well from ehat I've seen from other kayak fisherman. As fir the highboy I think I'm going to go with a roll bar mount and suction cup mount

Hmm haven't read anything about a flat vs bubble yet. Seems like the hero threes are all one type of screen?

Should I maybe look for a hero 2? Cuz all you here have the 1 or 2 and on other forums people seem to have the 2. No one has the three yet and some think they are over rated for what they do and their price... Just trying to decide my best option. Like do I get the white edition or go for it all and get the black hero 3.

I have the Hero 1 in my arsenal with a Pelican case full of GoPro goodies. The case is worth more than the camera but I really love it for those hard to get POV shots. I just posted some shots with my GoPro on this thread.

I have the Hero3 black. I got the car kit with some extra mounts. I had the freezing problem but the update was supposed to fix that. I tested it and it worked great. I took it with me on power tour and for a while it did great. But I'll be damned if the thing didn't freeze up again during two of the four pulls on the drag strip and on the autocross course. I was pissed. Got home and threw it in the drawer. I got another update from them just a while ago. Maybe I'll pull the thing out and update it and take it to Daytona for the rod run and see how it does. The Hero3 has the fish eye lense but it is adjustable, give a really good picture when it works like it is supposed to. And the iphone app to control it is priceless. Lets you see the pics and either hit record or snap a photo or switch between video and still inside the car without touching it.
