What parts do I need for V8 swap?

Hey guys, newbie on the forum. I just bought a 1979 F100 with a 300-6. I'm wanting to start collecting the parts needed to swap in a 351W and auto, but need to now what all I need.

My dad told me I need: radiator, engine stands, throttle cable and mount, PS hoses and bracket, and a shifter if i put in an auto.

Anything that was missed? What can I get the engine stands from? Any other info or tips?

I look forward to all your guy's knowledge on this.

You may need a new drive shaft made. You didnt mention what trans you have now and which trans you want to swap in but chances are the 2 are different lengths so a new drive shaft will be needed

An v8 ignition harness helps unless you wanna cut and splice. 302 motor mounts. Also you will have to enlarge the radiator opening in the support but the mounting holes are there.

Add a V8 gas pedal crank to your shopping list. The I-6's pedal crank will be too far towards the passenger side.

Good luck finding or making headers work with the 351W.

Personally, I'd keep the 300 I-6... better gas mileage, torquey, lightweight, strong, and it responds very well to turbocharging (hint, hint!).

Thanks guys. The truck has the side shift 3+1 OD.

Will the engine stands from an Econoline van work?

The 300 is going to be in the truck for awhile as this is an "as I can" project. I mean it only has 91000 on it right now.

As far as headers go my dad used Hooker headers for a 302 in his '68. They fit fine except for a little interference on the passenger side.

Engine stands no, gotta be from a v8 pickup. 2 or 4 wheel must match also. 351 is taller/wider than dad's motor. This pushes the primary tubes wider. They wont fit. My bro has the same set up on his 68. PO notched the top frame flange. Fail. A stock headed/cammed Windsor wont benefit that much from headers anyway, small exhaust ports, (bring on the flaming for that) use the stock manifolds and enjoy the sound of no leaks. Imho

My dad has a Windsor in his '68 and instead of cutting the rail he heated and bent it for clearance.

I saw on another site that 351m/400 stands will work. Will any parts from the 80's/90's trucks work?

Is this not a popular swap? It seems like someone would make headers for this.

70's 400 stands are good to go. 80's headers have a left side clearance issue with that respective engine stand, if I remember correctly.
