carb jets?

i've got a stock 360 ('76) and have two sets of jets. one says 56 and the other says 57. what do these numbers mean ( i assume on is more lean than the other, but which one) and which should i put in my new carb (stock carb; motorcraft 2bbl.)

The #57 jets are richer than #56 jets, but the difference is slight. If your old carb ran well, I'd use the same size jets in the new carb.
