Ram 1500 Eco diesel

Dodge has announced the new eco diesel to debut this fall in the 2014 Ram 1500. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...46751780,d.eWU

The engine will be mated to the 8 speed tranny and is expected to deliver some pretty good MPG's. Dodge has discontinued the 4.7L V-8.

Meanwhile, the latest edition of truck trend reports that Ford is coming to market with the 3.2L I-5 diesel for the transit van. Ford at least now has a workable engine that will fit in the F-150 if the need arises.

Likewise, GM has launched a 3.6L turbo V-6 for it's caddy line. Truck trend reports that the engine will make it to the Escalade very soon which obviously means it will make it to the 1500 series trucks.

Sounds like all is quiet in the Toyota camp.

Can't beat a fiat diesel, wonder how they will handle EPA reg's? Didn't see it mentioned in the article. They mention a 25-30% increase in mileage over gas which isn't necessarily true, at least in this country with the choked down emissions the diesels have to run currently. I think that is one of the big reasons Ford hasn't ventured down the Diesel path, and their terrible last 8 year run with Navistar.

It'll be interesting if a Transit with the I5 powerstroke can get 30% better mileage than one with an ecoboost.
