I'm trying this out for at least a short time. No intention of making long trips, but did this one for a friend. To much wear/tear on my truck due to the miles and rough highways. 1700 roundtrip. Gonna keep all future hauls closer to home.
couple extra straps, but she was a collector and I didn't use any chains so just being extra safe.
Oh, and the bush-hog was for a Ford 3000 I picked up when i got there. Lil-red won't be doing any real work.
Are some cars difficult getting out of once pulled into the trailer?
Depends on what type of enclosed trailer you are using. Mine is a car hauler so that large side door opens which allows me to easily open the car door and exit the vehicle. If you have a trailer without this option, you can either crawl out the window, not the best option, or crawl out the back. Another option would be to winch it straight in if you can. Type of vehicle is also a factor. While my wife might be able to open the door far enough to wiggle out without the side open, no way I could do it.
Speaking of the doofuses @ uhaul, we have a new 2013 Explorer Sport with a 5k tow rating and a 365hp twin turbo that uhaul will still not allow to rent a trailer !!!!
Idjuts are almost like the gooberment in they make a rule and to hell with the logic !
So I drive up to help the wife rent it for the kids in our 350 and they say you can tow it with that No thanks - I'm not renting it for us !
I can relate to your troubles dealing with U-Haul. I may have (my memory is a little cloudy) haha jk I rented a car dolly off of them a few years back with the intentions of transporting my non operable project truck being a 1992 F-Super Duty ie a massive old school F450. The truck only needed to be moved up the street as it was getting close to Winter time and I wanted it to rest somewhere else for the winter season, so a buddy of mine and I went to the U-Haul rental place and I told the dude there that I was gonna tow my brothers Toyota Camry so I filled out the paperwork and spent the extra 8 bucks for the insurance (damage insurance) on their dolly and my buddy and I loaded up my F450 and lugged it real slow and careful like up the road to my Aunts place where it would sit for the Winter until I could do something with it. We dinged up the dolly fender pretty good due to the Wide front rims of the F450 being a dually, it's extended front rims bit into one of the fenders, but I thought "ah whatever, that's why I paid the extra 8 bucks" U-Haul never said a word to me when I brought their dolly back and that was that haha. Now I own my own equipment hauling trailer and have never rented a single thing from U-Haul since then. U-Haul trailers are poorly made and I'm actually very surprised that the U-Haul dealers around here haven't been shut down by the DOT inspectors for safe & working rental vehicles & equipment.
Me doing "the wave" once we finally gotter all loaded on to the dolly
My current setup. I really appreciate my 2008 equipment trailer. I've never had to rent a trailer again after I purchased this trailer a couple years back. It's incredibly useful and very versatile.
