After shutting down my truck following a prolonged flogging yesterday, it sounded like the turbo continued to whine for a minute. I paid attention on the next drive and did not notice the turbo kick in that I usually do around 2000 rpms...The truck is running great- in fact maybe has more low end power right now...Now the prolonged whine after shutdown is common. What might this be?
What are we talking, 2 seconds, 10 seconds? I'd say look under the hood with it running and have someone shut it off and see where the sound is coming from. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Maybe there is a restriction in the return line and you're hearing the bleed off of pressure?
I raised this question a few years back. Mine has always done this. Maybe 4 seconds worth of spinny noise. Apparently it is common, and a great way to listen for the compressor wheel rubbing on the housing (this is what led me to buy a rebuilt turbo).
To prevent what 01PS mentions, ease up on the truck before reaching any destination where you park. The EGTs need to cool down and it's best to shut the truck down from idle - not rev up and shut down.
