zf5 4x4 rear mount thread size?
anyone know the thread size and pitch for the rear zf5 (4x4 version) mount bosses?
the bosses are cast into the tailhousing and the threads are tapped into the bosses. I have the rubber isolator mount that came with my junk crossmember, but I need the bolts to mount it to the tranny.
i'm guessing they're metric and size M14, but I don't have any on hand to try (or any 9/16 bolts) and i'd rather not order the screws and find out I was wrong.

I don't think so. I tried a 1/2-13 bolt and it slipped right through the one good hole in the junk tranny case I have. unless those threads are totally stripped out - i'll have to go check - but they didn't look that bad.
that's what got me thinking it was 9/16 or M14, since the 1/2" bolt was close, but went right through.
EDIT: ok, just went and check the part - I have it with me here at work - and you may be right. I hadn't noticed, but the threads are completely gone in the one boss that isn't busted off. the one that is broken is slightly more than half of the thread circumference remaining, though and it did match up with the 1/2-13 screw. do you recall it being the same size screw for the little plate on the side of the tail-housing that the t-case shifter mounts to? the 1/2-13 fit in there as well - very loose up top, but tightened up toward the bottom, but didn't seem to be cross-threading as if it were an imperial bolt in metric threads...
so, long story short - thanks for the answer - I think it is 1/2-13 as well, but will have to check on my good tranny at home.

While going over the 96 "Ebay special" I got, I found that both ears were broken off of the tranny mount. The ears would still hold the bolts, so I fabed some "clamps" out of angle iron, and used longer bolts with a nut on top of the top clamp to hold it all together. A 1/2" bolt threaded threw the broken off ear.

that's pretty much the exact fix i'm working on. i'm going to put two small bolts through the gusset near the busted boss and clamp a piece of anlge iron to the top surface where the threads ended. the angle iron will then have a weld-nut on top of it.
i'll try to take some pics and explain it better once I get it done - I case anyone else wants to try.
