Possible chevy 5.7 litre v8 install into 1960 f100 help

Hey guys, great to be back on the site. Ive been busy working on my own truck, working mostly towards getting her road worthy. I do have a very serious question. I have a G20 5.7 litre V8 engine from and old chevy van along with the original trannie and i know its crazy, but im wondering if this transtiton to install the motor and trannie into the 1960 100. It originally came with the inline six with the original ford-o-matic trannie, which i still have, but the truck deserves a bit more oopmhm in her get up lol. But im worried about if this is a feasable attempt and do i need to replace the rear end which i suppose is the original as well in the truck, which is a short bed styleside. Im hoping that this is a good idea as im sending the engine in for an overhall and a total makeover anyway, but i want to know for sure if its possible and if so, what parts do i need to alter or change out in order to make this happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated you guys. Thanks again, God bless, and happy cruising. And as Stepehen King once said, this ones for the burg. Pittsburg that is, lol.

Your rear axle should be a Ford 9 inch, plenty good for the motor you are thinking of. Ratio wise it may not be perfect.

How "old" is that motor? Don't go through all the trouble of swap like this and install a worn out smog motor that barely makes 100 hp anymore....jmo

You can look at these on line and get some ideas about making your own mounts, or find a kit that's close.

Drag racers use the 9" for good reason; they're tough to break. As far as ratio, they're also the best way to go because you can get used center sections, a.k.a. pumpkins, with just about any gear ratio you want. And you don't have to hire a rear end specialist to swap 'em.
You may have some here who will razz ya for putting a GM motor in a Ford. I prefer to have same engine in like vehicles (Ford in Ford, Chevy in Chevy, etc.). But a small block Chebby will fit in anything. I know I caught a bit of flak for using a GM alt and ign. module on my 223.

well here's a couple'a pieces of info that I hope will help ya out.
I did a 305 in mine outta an old parisienne pont. I had kickin around.
A company named "transdapt" makes the motor mount arm kit as far as the rear tranny mount I just used the original one outta the parisienne & drilled some new holes in it to match up to the frame width. used a mid 70's dodge d-100 truck rad cuz the rad hoses location on the orig. rad wouldn't work out. just have to narrow the opening in the rad support a bit, I just used I piece of sheetmetal to do this. also used a aftermkt. flexfan as I thought the orig. clutchfan stuck out a bit too far.
...The driveshaft ....well I just wandered around the wrecking yard with a measuring tape, til I came across one the right length, mine is a short box truck (well it was at the time, it's now got a panel body on it) found the shaft in back of a van with a whole raft of S-10 parts in it so I gotta assume its outta an old s-truck then just used adapter universal joint on the rear end, the front end plugged right into the splines on the trannie
shifting is looked after by an automatic column outta a 57 fairlaine just had to lengthen it a wee bit, 1/2 inch or so. (nothing looks worse than a modern column/steering wheel on any vintage vehicle, many of these columns & wheels were works of art on their own)
mine is the 700R4 4 speed auto. with 3:50 rear gears, works just dandy, with the economy cam & jetted down quadrajet carb & 235 75 15's truck gets around the 30 mpg highway. (tho you ain't likely to get that outta a 350.

Whilst you're at it you may as well upgrade to pwr. dual action brakes, I used a booster & master outta a 88ish dodge 150 this is practically a bolt on item, you only need to slot the truck's original master cyl holes a wee but,& on the one I used even the orig push rod was the right length there is a bit of hyd fitting adapting to get the br. lite switch to hook up to the brass brake block & of coars you gotta lengthen the wires down to the frame.

s'all I can think of for now, hope you can glean some info from it.

I used the CPP engine and transmission crossmembers and it worked pretty well. I had to modify a radiator from a 75 Dodge Pickup to get the inlet/outlet on the right sides. If you go with shorty headers or the Chevy rams horns you should be good. I have some Hedman headers in mine but they just happened to work, and I have no idea what part number they are, or how to find out.

I had a 292 in my '60 with a Fordo, and the 350/700R4 woke it up BIG TIME.
I'll follow that by saying the only reason I used that engine is because I had it and it was fairly new. If yours is nothing special or needs to be rebuilt, I'd suggest trying to find a 5.0 or 390, just because putting that Chevy in there won't help you if you ever want to sell it.
