7.3 misses at highway driving

My 2002 super duty 7.3 runs fine but acts like it misses while driving at highway speeds but will continue to run after the miss and every once in a while will shut off while stoped at a light. It will start immediately after it shuts down. Could this be the fuel supply pump? Looking for advise.

sounds like the "cps" cam position sensor is going bad. easy fix, only cost about 25 to 45 bucks depending on where you get it. search cps and you will learn all about it. also, welcome to fte.

Unfortunately, "Miss and random shut off" falls under MANY potential problems.

It could be fuel pressure, but it could be a lot of other things.
To rule out fuel pressure, you need to install a fuel pressure gauge and check it WHILE DRIVING. A simple pressure at idle will not reveal any partial blockages in the fuel system.

Its a pretty easy thing to check, so start with that.

It could also be a CPS failure. There is no test for this, just to replace it. Fortunately they are cheap. Be sure to only use an OEM CPS from Ford. You may also want to check IPR and ICP values, but you will need a high end scanner for this.
