Any recommendation for new starter?

1978 F250 351M 4-sp 4x4

Looking to buy a starter in the $70-80 range or so. Would prefer new as the difference in price between new and remanufactured is not that much. I was looking on this page, but have no idea between the Remy, ACDelco, and USA Industries:

Any recommendations?

I have seen a lot of guys recommending these high torque mini starters at the 460 ford forum. 351m and 460 use the same starter...

On starters, alternators, etc. I always buy the NAPA part with lifetime replacement. I haven't paid to replace parts like that for fifteen years.

Will that ebay mini starter bolt directly to a 351M with no change in attachment or wiring?

I second the lifetime warranty stuff. I have replaced my autolite twice in 15 years for free. That starter has a solenoid on it so the wiring is slightly different. Otherwise they bolt up just the same.

92-93 7.5L F-Series has a gear-reduction starter that works with older 460's. So it should work with your 351. Probably cheaper to buy from rock auto as well.

Mini-starters require a different wiring setup. Because the solenoid is part of the starter, these starters require that you run a hot-at-all-times starter cable down to the new solenoid, and then use the original solenoid to switch current to the new solenoid.

When it comes to starters, get the best, most expensive one you can. The budget-brand starters from your local parts house will chew up your flywheel.
