Horn problem for lack of a better descriiption

I have a 2006 F-350 6.0 Diesel that has developed a strange problem that leaves me wondering where to begin.

Timeline:

We are in San Antonio pulling our fifth wheel trailer when i stop in a drug store parking lot for supplies. When we exit the vehicle and I press the lock button on the remote, instead of beeping once like normal, the horn 'sticks' and blows continuously for almost five minutes while I try everything I can to stop it. I finally bang on the steering wheel and it stops.

We do our shopping and when I return, I'm brave enough to try the horn. It doesn't work at all. When I lock the doors with the remote, they lock but no horn beep.

Several days later the horn beeps quickly when I hit a bump going down the road. Brave once again, I push the horn button on the steering wheel and it 'sticks' again. I hit the center of the wheel hard and it quits. It maintains this behavior for about a week.

We move on to a different campground without further problems on the road; however, much to my dismay and those around me, the horn goes off continuously again at about 3am in the morning in the middle of the RV park. It takes several hits on the steering wheel center for me to get it to quit.

At this time, the horn seems to work correctly when I press the center of the steering wheel but it does not beep when you set the door locks with the remote like it did before this problem.

I initially thought that maybe there was a problem with the switch in the steering wheel or maybe a relay for the horn; but now that the horn doesn't beep with the remote and given the fact that it went off when nobody was around, I'm wondering about the alarm system module. I'm unsure where to begin and a little reluctant to fool with the cover on the steering wheel because of the airbag in there. I think the airbag can be disabled while working on the steering wheel by pulling a fuse but haven't researched it yet.

Anybody have any ideas or experience with this problem? Any recommendations before I head to a dealer?
