97 f250 hd 5.8 l v8 clutch question
My clutch pedal is engaging close to the floor. I took it to the local dealer here in Denver and they quoted me a new clutch at $1700. It's just that everything I have read tells me that my problem is not the clutch assembly. The truck will stall if I let off the clutch so IT is not slipping. Plus, I understand if the clutch is worn the pedal will engage closer to the top of the pedal play. Please help me diagnose my problem. I am not familiar with these hydraulic clutches. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I havent replaced a cluch in 30 years but from what I remember, the closer you are to the floor the more wear on the disk. It doesn't have to slip to be worn down but that will probably be soon to follow.Like brakes, as they wear, the less pedal you have, as you run out of ajustment and if it's hydrilic and theres not a resevor to fill, then time to replace it.If your replacing the cluch disk then you will also want to replace the pressure plate, throw out bearing, get the flywheel turned and I would also (Since your there ) replace the or pilot bearing.
